Everyone, especially those over 55 years of age concerned about keeping their cognitive functions, should have their hearing checked as part of their routine healthcare.
Answering YES to any of the following questions may mean that you have a hearing problem. Answering YES to several questions strongly suggests that a hearing check is necessary!

Yes, we accept payments from insurance companies. Contact our friendly Patient Care Coordinator to help determine your hearing benefits provided through your insurance carrier.
How much are hearing tests?
We offer free hearing consultations to our new patients. This is comprised of a pre-consult workup including gathering of historical data and current patient concerns and limitations, otoscopy and general physical examination of the Ear(s) including ear canals and eardrum and a hearing screening followed by review and consultation with one of our Hearing Specialists.
Do you provide Hearing Care Services to Children?
Yes. As a general rule we provide hearing care services to children from age 5 and up. Contact our Patient Care Coordinator for your specific concerns and to get answers to your questions concerning your child’s needs.
Do you offer tinnitus treatment?
Yes, we offer “managed care” treatment for those of our patients suffering from Tinnitus. Treatment includes a pre-consult workup including gathering of historical data and current patient concerns and limitations, otoscopy and general physical examination of the Ear(s) including ear canals and eardrum, consultation on and explanation of tinnitus and managed care treatment options and relevant expectations.
What Brands of hearing aids do you offer?
We are what is called “A Full-line Dispenser”. Having served the hearing healthcare needs of Brevard for more than 22 years we have knowledge of the vast array of available technology offering new products and services of the world’s leading hearing aid manufacturers including: ReSound, Widex, Starkey, Signia (Siemens), Oticon, Phonak, Rexton, Unitron and others.
How often should I have my hearing tested?
We recommend that everyone obtain a “Baseline Screening” then, depending upon the results, you should update your screening every 1-2 years. For those of us that are over 55 years of age, we should update our hearing tests annually. If you or your closest associates notice a change in your ability to understand speech a hearing test is recommended sooner rather than later.
Does hearing loss affect a person’s ability to remember things and other cognitive functions?
Yes. Hearing loss affects memory loss and cognitive function, especially in the elderly. Once hearing loss is diagnosed the Patient should then be fit with the best hearing instruments and devices according to his or her lifestyle, conformity verified, and the Patient’s coping abilities should be evaluated and sustained. Cognitive and overall mental health assessments of the elderly and associated life changing decisions should not be considered without first obtaining a Comprehensive Hearing Evaluation of the Patient and associated treatment completed.
Should my hearing aids be fit by an Audiologist or a Hearing Aid Specialist?
A few decades ago the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) would revoke an Audiologist’s C’s (Certificate of Clinical Competency necessary for an Audiologist to practice) if caught dispensing a hearing aid. In many States hearing aid dispensing is not, or was not until recently, required in the audiology curriculum. Audiology education alone does not prepare someone to practice in a “specialty area” like Hearing Instrument Sciences. Licensing is designed to protect consumers, and many audiologists fail the hearing aid specialist’s exam. Our Specialists are State Licensed Hearing Aid Specialists and National Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences. It is estimated that the causes of age-related hearing loss are 35-55% genetic.
